FREQUENCY: Specifying the number of days between backup versions of a data set

Explanation

FREQUENCY is an optional parameter specifying the number of days that must have elapsed since the last time DFSMShsm backed up a data set before DFSMShsm will back up the data set again.

The following parameter is an optional parameter of the FREQUENCY parameter:
days
A decimal number from 0 to 999. A value of 0 allows DFSMShsm to back up data sets every time volume backup runs unless you use the FREQUENCY parameter of the ALTERDS or BACKVOL command to change the frequency.

SMS relationship

Parameter does not apply to SMS-managed DASD volumes or data sets.

SETSYS default

None.

DFSMShsm default

If you do not specify FREQUENCY parameter on any SETSYS command, the DFSMShsm default is zero.

Usage notes:
  1. The FREQUENCY parameter only applies to data sets that have been backed up.
