When you copy a data set, the expiration date of the target data set is dependent upon whether:

• The data set is VSAM or non-VSAM.
• The source data set is SMS or non-SMS-managed.
• The target data set is SMS or non-SMS-managed.
• The source data set is cataloged or not cataloged.
• The SMS target’s expiration date matches the target’s management class.
