PM frequency schedules

You specify a frequency schedule for PM records to determine how often the PM record generates work orders.

Preventive maintenance work is usually triggered by one or more conditions:

  • Elapsed time since previous work. Such PM records are called time-based PMs.
  • Metered usage of assets. Such PM records are called meter-based PMs.
  • A combination of elapsed time and metered usage. For example, you can schedule a PM to trigger work every six months or every 300 hours, whichever comes first.

You enter scheduling information on the Frequency tab in the Preventive Maintenance (Nuc) application. You can use a single frequency for a PM record, or a sequence of multiple frequencies for greater scheduling flexibility.

You can work with more complex schedules by using lead times, seasonal and extended dates, and by triggering work outside of a PM frequency cycle.

Fixed and floating schedules

To schedule any master or associated PM record, determine whether you want to do work on a fixed schedule or a floating schedule. On a fixed schedule, you plan work based on the target start date of the previous work. The target start increments by a frequency that you specify. On a fixed schedule, you can create multiple work orders in advance. On a floating schedule, you plan work based on the closure of the previous work. You cannot generate a new work order until the current one is completed on a floating schedule.
  • When you create a fixed-schedule PM record, the preventive maintenance work is scheduled based on the value in the Last Start Date field on each associated PM record. The Last Start Date field is on the PM tab of the Preventive Maintenance (Nuc) application.
  • When you create a floating-schedule PM record, the preventive maintenance work is scheduled based on the value in the Last Completion Date field. The Last Completion Date field is on the PM tab of the Preventive Maintenance (Nuc) application.

Frequency sequences

You can assign a sequence of multiple frequencies to PM records to allow greater flexibility when scheduling work orders. You can create multiple predefined frequency values in the Frequency (Nuc) application. If you enter frequency sequences, the Use Frequency Sequences check box on the Frequency tab is selected, and the predefined values can be added to each row of a job plan sequence in the order that you choose. Using multiple frequency values allows you to schedule work according to the 12- or 13-week scheduling approach, as well as other complex rotations.
