Generate an incremental search index

An incremental index build is the most efficient way of generating an index if you have made only a few changes to a corresponding catalog.

About this task

Over a period of time, you may have added new products, features, data sheets, and so on to your product catalog. You may have also decided that certain search characteristics are more important than others and should therefore be weighed differently. In such a scenario, you must generate a new index based on an existing index as well as the product catalog changes made since the existing index was built. An incremental index build is the best way of generating an index when you have made only a few changes to the corresponding catalog. In such a scenario, building an incremental index takes less time to complete than creating a new index.

You can generate an incremental search index from the Item Catalog Index List screen.

To generate an incremental search index:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the Item Catalog Index List screen. To navigate to the Item Catalog Index List screen, perform the following steps:
    1. Log in to Sterling™ Business Center as an Item Administrator.
    2. The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click Manage Catalog Indexes from the Catalog dashlet.

      The Item Catalog Index screen is displayed.

  2. Select the check box adjacent the corresponding index. To generate multiple incremental search indexes, select the check boxes adjacent the required indexes.
  3. Click Incremental Build.
    Note: This button is enabled only if you have selected a record that is in either the Active status or the Complete status.

    A new record with its status as In Progress is added to the table in the Index List panel.
