Workflow administration overview

As a system administrator, you install, configure, and maintain workflow system components.

While there are no workflow system components installed on client machines, you also configure workflow system as necessary to support clients.

After installing and initially configuring workflow system, use Process Configuration Console to configure the workflow database and environment, including creating and modifying the workflow database structures: isolated regions, queues, rosters, and event logs. Process Configuration Console also provides you with management tools to configure event logging and to set performance parameters.

The tasks associated with maintaining and administering workflow system fall into two broad categories: workflow administration and system administration.

  • Workflow administration - A workflow administrator is concerned with (and aware of) the business purposes of the workflows used in the system. A workflow administrator works with workflow authors to design workflow solutions, monitor work in progress, organize and manage the workflow database, analyze workflow processing, and correct errors in workflows.
  • System administration - A system administrator understands installation and configuration issues related to workflow functionality within a FileNet® P8 system. A system administrator uses administrative tools to monitor the running system, tracks system performance, and performs maintenance tasks.
