Prerequisites

Prerequisite ensures that you have everything for a successful setup and installation of IBM Spectrum Fusion.

Procedure

  1. Go through the system requirements and confirm whether you meet all the requirements. For detailed information about system requirements, see System requirements.
  2. Ensure that you have the infrastructure and Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform 4.8 or 4.10.
  3. Obtain IBM Entitlement Registry Key.
For the steps to obtain the key, see Obtaining entitlement key.
  4. Create a pull secret.
For the actual steps to generate, see Creating image pull secret.
  5. IBM Spectrum Fusion requires 410 GB of RWO storage to host its internal data catalog.
  6. If you want to add and use Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation storage, do these steps:
    1. If your application uses Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation volumes, then you need a VolumeSnapshotClass using ODF CSI driver. The VolumeSnapshotClass must be created with information that is related to the volumes to be backed up. The requirement for storage class and volume snapshot class is specified here. It also includes the supported CSI drivers. https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6554488. For more information about Container Backup, see https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/spp/10.1.10?topic=containers-overview
For more information about system requirements, see System requirements.
Note: If you configure storage access to a remote IBM Spectrum Scale file system through IBM Spectrum Fusion, then a VolumeSnapshotClass gets auto created for IBM Spectrum Scale.
    2. To use Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation (OpenShift Container Storage) for IBM Spectrum Fusion catalogs, you can reuse an already-existing storage class or create Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation Storage Class. For more information about how to create storage classes, see Red Hat OpenShift 4.10 documentation. Otherwise, you must purchase and setup. For more information, see Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation as a storage type.
  7. If you plan to deploy IBM Spectrum Fusion on a OpenShift Container Platform cluster with a cluster wide proxy configured, then ensure you add these hosts to your allowlist:
    • registry.redhat.io
    • quay.io
    • cp.icr.io
    • icr.io
    • redhat.com
    • registry.connect.redhat.com
    • catalog.redhat.com
    • access.redhat.com
    • cloud.redhat.com
    • cdn02.quay.io
    • registry.access.redhat.com
Note: This step is applicable only for on-premise deployments.
