Sending map sketch notifications

You can configure Maximo Asset Management to automatically email information to users when you create a sketch on a map by using a mobile device.

Before you begin

In the Security Groups application, add a user to the GISADMIN group. Members of this group receive an email when a sketch is created for a record.

About this task

The PlussMapSketchCronTask cron task is scheduled to run every 60 seconds. It identifies new sketch data that is added to mobile map records. This data is e-mailed to members of the GISADMIN group.

Procedure

  1. In the Cron Task Setup application, configure the PlussMapSketchCronTask cron task.
You can configure the DPI, format, height, and width of the map image that is emailed.
After the cron task is run, the status of the sketch record is changed from NEW to PROCESSED.
  2. On a mobile device, open the Maximo Anywhere Work Execution application and select an online map from the map list.
  3. From the map menu, select the Map Sketch tool.
  4. Add a sketch element to the map, and then save the sketch.
Sketches that are added to online maps are automatically saved to the Maximo Asset Management server.

Results

When the PlussMapSketchCronTask cron task is run, information about the sketch is emailed to members of the GISADMIN group . The email includes JSON files, a PDF that contains an image of the map area, and a URL that opens the specific record that is associated with the sketch. Images are created using the Print Service URL configured in the Map Manager. JSON files can be imported and viewed as features inside the ArcMap application. Text elements are imported as a point on the map. You must enable the label features for points in the ArcMap application to view your sketch text.

You can update the MAPSKETCH email template with the Communication Templates application if you want to customize the text of the notification.
