Microsoft Outlook client problems

This section describes problems that might occur with the Microsoft® Outlook client.

Declare Record button does not exist

Problem: The Declare Record button does not exist on the Outlook menu bar.

Possible causes: The Content Manager Records Enabler Outlook code is either not installed or not configured correctly.

Resolution: Ensure that the Content Manager Records Enabler Outlook code is installed and configured correctly or re-install or re-configure it. The Content Manager Records Enabler feature is installed with IBM® CommonStore. You can see whether the Content Manager Records Enabler feature is installed on the Outlook client in the Windows® Registry. E-mail information is not automatically captured

Problem: A declared e-mail record does not automatically capture e-mail information from the original e-mail message.

Possible causes: Some of the e-mail component attributes are defined incorrectly in IBM Records Manager.

Resolution: Check the IBM Records Manager server and make sure that the e-mail component attributes are defined and mapped correctly.

Cannot declare e-mail when Outlook 2003 is in Cached Exchange Mode

Problem: In the Outlook client when you are trying to declare e-mail as a record, you receive messages indicating that Content Manager Records Enabler cannot get the necessary data to declare the message a record.

Possible causes: In Cached Exchange Mode, the communications between the Outlook client and the Exchange Server is interrupted.

Resolution: Change your Outlook client to not use Cached Exchange Mode by performing the following steps:

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Mail.
  3. Click E-mail Accounts.
  4. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next.
  5. Click Change on the E-mail accounts page.
  6. Clear the check box for Use Cached Exchange Mode.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
  9. Close and reopen your Outlook client.
