Different user names that are displayed in IBM Content Navigator
System properties and the global toolbar, which displays the logged in user, can display various user name properties depending on your LDAP configuration and what is configured in the Content Platform Engine settings. Use this information to understand where and why you might find a short name (user ID), email alias, display name, User Principal Name (UPN), or the full distinguished name (full DN) in IBM Content Navigator.
- Content Engine is initially configured with the display name and
short name as the same value (
user1). All content that is added with this setting displaysuser1in the Added By and Modified By fields. - Weeks later, the Content Engine administrator changes the short name
attribute to use the email alias, for example,
user1@us.ibm.com, instead ofuser1. The administrator can modify this setting in Enterprise Manager, IBM Administration Console for Content Platform Engine, or in the application server settings. - Content that is added to the repository now displays
user1@company.comin the Added By and Modified By fields. However, the content that existed before the configuration was changed will remain the same; the previous short name,user1, will be displayed in those fields.
Email alias or UPN as the user login name
You can configure for the email address or UPN to be used as the login name for users logging in to IBM Content Navigator. See Configure Content Platform Engine to use email or UPN for login.
Login name for the administration desktop
You can log in to the administration desktop when your user name is specified in the Administrators tab of the Settings area in the IBM Content Navigator administration tool. When you log in to the administration desktop as an administrator, the global toolbar displays the ID that was used during login. For example, if an administrator is configured in the administration tool settings as superuser@gross.local, and this user logs in to the admin desktop as superuser, superuser will be the logged-in user name that is displayed in the global toolbar.
