Cannot find a Java virtual machine

A Java virtual machine (JVM) must be configured before you run the Installer or the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment tools. An error is encountered if the JVM is not configured.

Symptoms

A Java virtual machine was not installed.

  • When you run the installation program, an error message states
Could not find a valid Java virtual machine to load.
You may need to reinstall a supported Java virtual machine.
  • When you run the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment tool, an error message states
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
must be available in order to run Config mgr. No Java virtual machine
was found after searching the following locations:
    /<JVM directory>

Causes

A JVM was not installed before the installation program or the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment tool was run.

Resolving the problem

Install a Java virtual machine and make sure that the JVM is added to the CLASSPATH environment variable. For more information, see the Bundled Java is removed from the installer section in What's New in IBM Content Navigator 3.0.15.
