Backing up IBM Content Navigator

Periodically back up your IBM Content Navigator system to facilitate a rapid recovery from situations that result in the loss of data.

About this task

If you use IBM Content Navigator to connect to IBM FileNet® Content Manager repositories, you can include your IBM Content Navigator database in the online backup of your IBM FileNet P8 system.

If you use IBM Content Navigator to connect to IBM Content Manager or IBM Content Manager OnDemand, or if you do not run an online backup of your IBM FileNet P8 system, you must back up your IBM Content Navigator system offline.

If you are using Box as a repository in IBM Content Navigator, work with Box and refer to the service-level agreement (SLA) that you have with Box to determine the backup strategy and frequency that meets your business requirements and recovery point objective (RPO). If it becomes necessary for you to restore the Box repository, contact Box to request a restore.

If you are using IBM Content Navigator features that interact with a Box repository with metadata stored in the IBM Content Navigator database, it is highly recommended that you coordinate the backup of both the IBM Content Navigator database and the Box repository with the same frequency and time. Then, you can restore the repositories to a specific point in time where the metadata in the IBM Content Navigator database are synchronized with the objects in the Box repository.

Procedure

To back up IBM Content Navigator:

  1. Back up your repository by following the documentation for your repository.
  2. Back up your IBM Content Navigator database by following the documentation for your database.
  3. Back up your IBM Content Navigator configuration profiles:
    1. Log on to the IBM Content Navigator server as a user with access to the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool.
    2. Copy the profiles that you want to back up from the configure/profiles subdirectory of the IBM Content Navigator installation directory.
Each profile is a folder that contains the files that build and deploy a specific instance of IBM Content Navigator. You can copy the profiles to another directory on the server or onto a network directory or similar location where the files are accessible but secure.
    3. To restore the configuration profiles, copy the profile folders back to the configure/profiles directory on the IBM Content Navigator server.
  4. Back up the IBM Content Navigator configuration directory, including the master cryptographic key. For the complete steps, see https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/869440
