Classic Java APIs for IMS: configuring CICS

Java™ applications that run on CICS® Transaction Server for z/OS® can access IMS™ databases by using the classic Java APIs for IMS. Other than the Java layer, access to IMS from a Java application is the same as for a non-Java application.

The following figure shows a JCICS application that is accessing an IMS database using DRA and classic Java APIs for IMS.

  1. Configuring CICS for the classic Java APIs for IMS
    To run Java applications that access IMS databases in a CICS environment, you must have CICS Transaction Server for z/OS installed.
  2. Running the IMS IVP application for the classic Java APIs for IMS and CICS
    After you configure CICS to run Java applications that access IMS databases, verify that the classic Java APIs for IMS are installed correctly and that CICS is configured correctly by running CICSIVP, the IMS installation verification program (IVP) for the CICS Java environment.
  3. Running your applications on CICS with the classic Java APIs for IMS
    Configuring IMS and CICS to support a CICS application program that accesses IMS DB through the classic Java APIs for IMS requires you to perform several steps.
