Editing a Status Gauge widget

This dashboard widget visually presents status for a single value using a symbol and labels.

Before you begin

Ensure that the dashboard is in edit mode. In edit mode, you can add, edit, and remove widgets. When you create a new dashboard, it is automatically in edit mode. For an existing dashboard, to enter edit mode, click Page actions icon and select Edit Page.

Procedure

  1. To edit data provider settings for the widget, select the widget and in its title bar click Edit options icon. Select Edit, or from the Widget menu in the dashboard menu bar, select Edit.
A configuration page is displayed, where you can search for a data provider.
  2. To select a data set, enter a search string and click Search to return a list of data sets that include the specified search string in their name.
To return a list of all data sets available to the widget, leave the search field empty and click Search.
  3. Select a data set from the list.
A Visualization Settings page is displayed, where you can specify data set attributes for the gauge.
Note: Only data sets that include a OslcResourceURI column support the UI Preview feature. The OslcResourceURI column identifies the URI that is used to query the Resource Registry in the Dashboard Application Services Hub that can have previews for the listed resource.
  4. In the Required Settings frame, select an attribute from the drop-down menu.
A status symbol for this attribute will be displayed in the widget.
  5. Optional: In the Optional Settings frame, you can customize the widget title and the widget visualization options.
    1. Optional: In the Title field, provide a custom title for the widget.
    2. Optional: In the Custom Help URL field, provide a fully qualified URL (that is, include http:// or https://) to an HTML file to provide custom help.
The specified help page is accessible from the General tab when a user clicks the help icon for the widget.
    3. In the Visualization Options section, specify options to determine how the data is to be displayed by the widget:
      • Use the Label Above Visualization drop-down list to place a value label above the visualization.
      • Use the Label at Leading Edge drop-down list to specify a value label at the start of the visualization.
      • Use the Font Size drop-down list to set a size for a label that you may have specified to be displayed above the gauge, or at its leading edge.
      • Use the Font Family drop-down list to set a font style for a label that you may have specified to be displayed above the gauge, or at its leading edge.
      • Use the Font Color drop-down list, which displays the currently selected font color, to set a color for a label that you may have to specified to be displayed above the gauge, or at its leading edge. In the drop-down list, you can select the default font color, or you can click Select Color to display a color palette, from which you can select a custom color.
      • In the Informational, Normal, Minor, Major, Critical, and Fatal fields, you can specify thresholds at which attribute values begin to be in a particular range. A threshold is a specified value for an attribute that triggers a notification if it is matched or exceeded.

A notification can result in the status icon being updated. For example, if the CPU usage attribute equals or exceeds 95%, the visualization may indicate a fatal error status.

      • When no data is available to a gauge, by default its status is set to Unknown. You can use the No Data Status drop-down list to determine the status to display when no data is available for a gauge. The Unknown status is reflected by a gray colored gauge and a visual indication that varies by gauge type. For example, the Analog Gauge reads below the minimum value; the Status Gauge shows a ? symbol; and the Value Status Gauge shows a - symbol.
Note: Some fields may provide parameter value filtering depending on the data type and data set. Parameters fields with a data type of array can include an Add button. You can manually enter parameter values in the associated field, or click Add. The Add button provides access the Enhanced Parameter Panel, where you can select and filter parameter values. For more details, see Enhanced Parameter Selector.
    4. If the selected data set supports it, you can use the Preliminary Data Filter section to filter the data set values so that the widget displays the values that you require.
Note: When you select a data set, the widget is rendered with all of the available data, or in the case of gauges, the first value that is listed is the one that is reflected in the widget.

Use filtering to limit the rows to show only those values that are of interest to you. You can adjust the filter rules to see more or fewer rows. If no filters are defined, the Filter dialog box shows Rule 1 with options for entering a new rule. If other rules exist, they appear in collapsed bars. You can clear existing filters with the Clear filter link in the Filter bar or use the Clear button that is provided in the Filter dialog.

      Match
This field is initially set to all rules, which means that a row is displayed only if the data in the row follows all the rules for the filter. A row is excluded when its values do not follow any one rule. If there are multiple rules and you want a row to be included when it follows any of the rules, change the setting to any rule.
      Column
If you want to filter on a particular column, select the column to filter on.
      Condition

starts with the cell value begins with the same characters as Value.
ends with the cell value has the same characters at the end as Value.

does not contain the cell value does not include the same text as Value.
      Value
Enter the string to apply the condition to. After you enter a value, the expression is displayed in the rule bar.
      Multiple rules
Leave Match set to all rules if you want the criteria in all rules to be met before a row is displayed. Change the setting to any rules if the row is to be displayed when it meets the criteria in any of the rules.
