Editing a hotspot

Administrators can configure shared settings for a hotspot to control the functionality of a hotspot in a number of ways. For example, hotspots can be used to provide a links to web pages or other widgets when they overlay a background widget.

Before you begin

The dashboard that contains the hotspot must be in edit mode before you can edit details for its widgets. To access edit mode, in the top bar, click Page actions icon and then click Edit Page.

About this task

To set a hotspot to be displayed in a widget and to further configure its display settings, complete the following steps:

Procedure

  1. In the title bar of the hotspot widget, click the Edit options icon icon and select Edit.

A settings page is displayed, where you can configure the hotspot title, appearance, tooltip text, and target options.

  2. Required: In the Appearance section decide whether you would like the hotspot to display as a colored spot or as an image:
    • For the hotspot to display as a colored spot, select the Color option. Choose a base color and set a transparency level for the hotspot when a user is not hovering over it. Select a hover color and transparency level to which to hotspot changes when a user hovers over the hotspot. Use the Width and Height fields to specify the size of the hotspot in pixels.
    • For the hotspot to display as an image, select the Image option, and provide a valid URL for an image.
Restriction: You cannot resize a hotspot image or configure transparency levels, so choose an image or icon that is already sized to your requirements.
  3. In the Hover Tooltip field, specify the text to be displayed when a user hovers over the hotspot.
  4. In the Action section, specify the action to be taken when a user clicks the hotspot:
    Option Description
None When you select this option, it specifies that you want no action to be taken when a user clicks the hotspot.
Open Web Page When you select this option, a URL field is displayed. Specify the URL of the web page that you want to open when a user clicks the hotspot.
Open Console Page When you select this option, a Pages drop-down list is displayed. Select the console dashboard that you want to launch when a user clicks the hotspot.
Launch Widget When you select this option, a Widgets drop-down list is displayed. Select the widget that you want launched when a user clicks the hotspot.
Send Event When you select this option, an Events drop-down list is displayed. The Events drop-down list provides two options:
    • Node Selected - The Node Selected event is a generic event that can take many parameters. It communicates with the other widgets and the parameters depend on the data source.
    • Web Widget Display URL - The Web Widget Display URL takes a target URL parameter and an optional target frame parameter. This event works with either the Web Widget or the Third Party Integration widget to update it with a new URL. If a target frame parameter is supplied, the Web Widget is only updated if the target frame name matches that configured for it.
Show Tooltip When you select this option, a Tooltip field is displayed. Enter text that you want displayed when the hotspot is clicked. This text can be different to the text specified for the Hover Tooltip field, which is displayed when a user hovers over the hotspot.
Show Message When you select this option, a Message field is displayed. Enter text that you want displayed in a browser dialog when the hotspot is clicked. A user must acknowledge the browser message to proceed.
  5. Click OK to commit your settings and return to the edit page mode.
  6. When you are finished editing widgets on the dashboard, click Save to commit your changes.
