Considerations when you use the imcl command
from the Installation Manager installer
Before using imcl commands with the Installation Manager installer,
review information about issues that can occur.
You can use imcl commands with either
the installed version of Installation Manager or
the Installation Manager installer.
However, issues can occur when you use imcl from
the Installation Manager installer.
The issues occur because of the compatibility limitations among different
versions of Installation Manager.
A version of Installation Manager is
compatible with earlier releases of Installation Manager.
The same version of Installation Manager is
not compatible with later releases.
To use imcl from
the Installation Manager installer
when Installation Manager is
installed, you must use the -datalocation option
to specify an agent data location. The agent data location must not
be the same location where Installation Manager is
installed.
Examples
In the examples, the imcl commands
are issued from the Installation Manager installer
and Installation Manager is
not installed.
Example 1: Product A includes Installation Manager version
1.7. Product B includes Installation Manager version
1.6.3. You install Product A by using imcl commands
for version 1.7. The installation of Product B that uses imcl commands
for version 1.6.3 fails. Version 1.6.3 of the imcl commands
are not compatible with the later version of imcl commands
that Product A uses. You must use the imcl commands
from version 1.7 to install Product B.
Example 2: You install Product B by using Installation Manager version 1.6.3. Next, you install
Product A by using Installation Manager version 1.7 You cannot uninstall Product B by using the
imcl commands from version 1.6.3; you must use the imcl commands
from version 1.7.
