Managing console idle timeout

As a security administrator, you can define the idle timeout value for your user login session.

Before you begin

You must be assigned the Security administration role with permission to Manage security (Full permission) to perform these steps.You can use the console, the command line interface, or the REST API to complete this task. For the command line and REST API information, see the Related information section.

About this task

If a user login session is idle longer than the predefined timeout value, the session automatically logs out. The session idle timeout is reset to the predefined timeout value every time you click on items in the console. The default and maximum console login session timeout is 1440 minutes, or 24 hours. When the timeout is reached, you must login to the console again. Use the following procedure to define your session idle timeout.

Procedure

  1. Click System > System Security. If you are on 2.3.3.3 or later, click Security and access > System Security. .
  2. Click Timeout Settings.
  3. Click the numeric value to edit the timeout value. The value must be larger than or equal to two minutes. The default value is 30 minutes.
  4. Type the preferred number of minutes, in integer, of idle time before your console session timeout.
