Creating a management domain

You can create a management domain that you can use to define the local and remote systems that are part of your multisystem environment.

Before you begin

Before you can create a management domain, you must first configure the system to have an external management IP address to access the console management and monitoring services for cross system communication. For more information about configuring additional IP addresses for cloud management, see the Related tasks section.

Ensure that LDAP settings are configured and are the same settings on each rack (these are text string comparisons so they must be an exact match). For more information about integrating with LDAP servers, see the Related concepts section.

About this task

You can create only one management domain on the system. If a management domain has already been created for this system, you must delete it before you can create a new one.

You must be assigned to both of the following roles to perform these steps:
  • Hardware administration with Manage hardware resources (Full permission)
  • Security administration with Manage security (Full permission)

Procedure

  1. Click System > Management Domain Configuration.
The Management Domain Configuration page is displayed.

If a management domain is already created for the system, the details are displayed. You can skip the rest of this procedure and proceed to add remote locations and deployment subdomains.

If no management domain is defined, the Create Management Domain button is displayed. Continue this procedure to create the management domain.

  2. Click the Create Management Domain button.
The Create Management Domain dialog is displayed.
  3. In the Name field, specify a unique name for the management domain and click OK.
You can also click Cancel to cancel the create request.

Results

The management domain is created, and the following items are displayed:
  • The name of the management domain is displayed.
  • Several links to pending and started jobs are displayed. Click these links to see detailed status for jobs related to your multisystem environment.
  • The Create Deployment Subdomain button is displayed, which you can use to add deployment subdomains to your management domain configuration.
  • A Trash Can icon is displayed, which you can use to delete the management domain configuration.
  • The Add a Location button is displayed, which you can use to add a remote Cloud Pak System to the management domain.
  • The location representing the local system is displayed with an orange circle icon.

What to do next

Before you add remote locations to your management domain, ensure that you also configure an additional IP address for cross system communication, and ensure that configured LDAP settings are the same on both local and remote systems.
