Viewing log files

The log files associated with the virtual machine that plays a role in the instance of the System Monitoring shared service are stored on the system. You can view logs directly from the system, or you can download them to your local file system for review.

Procedure

  1. Click Patterns > Shared Services Instances. If you are on 2.3.3.3 or later, click Patterns > Manage > Shared Service Instances. The Shared Service Instances page displays the list of shared services, grouped by shared service type. The list is displayed in a table format, providing some basic details about each shared service.
    The following functions are available for you to work with the list of shared service instances:
    Refresh
    Refreshes the status of the shared service instances and updates the fields on the Shared Service Instances page.
    Create New
    Click Create New to create a new shared service instance.
    Filter
    Enter a term that is used to filter the shared service instances that display on the page.
  2. Select the instance of the System Monitoring shared service for which you want to view logs.

  3. Expand Virtual machine perspective to show details for the virtual machines, including health status.
  4. Click Log Viewer for the virtual machine that you want to view log files for. The Log Viewer window opens.
  5. Click the plus sign (+) in the navigator.
    The available log files for the virtual machine are displayed. They are grouped under the following categories:
    • Caching
    • DeploymentInlet
    • IWD Agent
    • OS
  6. Keep clicking the plus sign (+) until you reach the log file that you want to view and then click the file name to open it.
    You can also click Download All to save all the available log files to your file system. The compressed file includes the current error.log file, the current trace.log file, and the available archived versions of these logs.
