Installing prerequisite software

The Case Manager Builder application is deployed on WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment or on Oracle WebLogic Server. IBM® Content Navigator hosts the Case Manager Client. In development environments, IBM Case Manager also requires IBM FileNet® Workplace XT or the Process applets.

About this task

You use the application server to deploy IBM Case Manager, IBM Content Navigator, and Workplace XT. You also use the application server to coordinate authentication between the IBM Case Manager applications and Content Platform Engine.

To use the advanced workflow features in Process Designer for Case Manager Builder, either deploy an instance of Workplace XT or, if you are using IBM Case Manager Version 5.2.1 Fix Pack 1 or later, configure the Process applets to run from IBM Content Navigator.
  • Workplace XT is a client application of Content Platform Engine. In development environments, Workplace XT can be in the same profile as, or in a different profile than, IBM Case Manager. In production environments, if Workplace XT is deployed, it must be in a different profile than IBM Case Manager.
  • In lieu of Workplace XT, the Process applets can provide Process Designer facilities to Case Manager Builder. For complete information about configuring the Process applets, see Configuring the Process applets to run from IBM Content Navigator.

If you are installing IBM Case Manager on a server where your application server, IBM Content Navigator, and Workplace XT or the Process applets are already installed, upgrade the software to the minimum required version before you install IBM Case Manager.

You might need to increase the memory settings in your application server to enable better performance in your deployed IBM Case Manager applications. For more information, see Adjusting the Java™ Virtual Machine (JVM) heap for IBM Case Manager.

Procedure

To install the prerequisite software:

  1. Install and configure your cluster or network deployment environment.
  2. Create a share directory that is visible and writeable by all nodes in the cluster. Map the share directory with the same path to all server nodes in the cluster.
  3. Install your application server software. If you are using WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment, install the latest fix pack. You can get fix packs from Fix Central.
  4. Install, configure, and deploy IBM Content Navigator.

    Install one IBM Content Navigator server for each IBM Case Manager server that you plan to install. You cannot share a single IBM Content Navigator server among multiple IBM Case Manager servers.

    WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment environments only: IBM Content Navigator and IBM Case Manager must be deployed to the same server (runtime environment or JVM) or cluster.
    Tip: Be sure to configure the viewer for your IBM Content Navigator instance. For more information, see Configuring viewers used to display documents in the web client.
  5. Install, configure, and deploy Workplace XT on the managed node or cluster.
  6. If you deploy Workplace XT and IBM Content Navigator to the same profile, assign a session cookie ID for IBM Content Navigator that is different from the session cookie ID for Workplace XT.
