Generating Symbolic Map

You can generate a symbolic map in the z/OS Project view or the Remote Systems view.

To generate a symbolic map for either COBOL or PL/I, you need to perform the following tasks:
  1. select the BMS file with the file extension as .bms. Then click Generate > Symbolic Map. The Generate Symbolic Map for COBOL or Generate Symbolic Map for PL/I window displays.
    • If the BMS file contains LANG=COBOL or LANG=PLI, the generation function is active.
    • If the BMS file does not containsLANG=COBOL or LANG=PLI, the generation function is inactive.
  2. In the Generate Symbolic Map window, select a folder as the target to keep the generated symbolic map. Enter a file name in the Name field. Click OK. The symbolic map is generated and stored in the folder. A message will inform you when the generaion is completed.
    • If the symbolic map is generated from a local COBOL file, the file extension is .CPY.
    • If the symbolic map is generated from a local PL/I file, the file extension is .INC.
