Guidelines for collector load balancing

You can optimize resource use, maximize throughput, minimize response time, and avoid overload of any single resource by load balancing.

Decreasing the poll interval value increases the frequency of the polling. More frequent polling introduces surplus to run the poll, but more timely data is provided.

If you want to increase or decrease the polling time, first get the NMON data and proviso log information to perform the details performance analysis, to determine the related DataLoad and DataChannel component's resource utilization and performance summary.

As general recommendation, the system can have 40,000 subelements per subchannel with an average of 10 metrics per subelements with a 15-minutes granularity period.

Consider the following guidelines:

If you want to set the granularity period to 5 minutes, you need to increase the number of subchannels. This setting allows each of the subchannels to be able to process the data within the 5 minutes. Essentially, it decreases the number of elements per subchannel.

If the granularity period is reduced to 5 minute, then number of subelements per subchannel can be reduced.
