Copying spfilePV.ora file to the new Oracle home

You need copy the spfilePV.ora (or spfile.ora) file to the new Oracle home.

Procedure

  1. As oracle user, run the following command to copy the spfilePV.ora into new Oracle home. 
    1. $ cp /opt/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbs/spfilePV.ora /opt/oracle/product/18.0.0/dbs/ 
$ ls -lrt /opt/oracle/product/18.0.0/dbs/
total 16
-rw-r--r-- 1 oracle oinstall 3079 May 14  2015 init.ora
-rw-r----- 1 oracle oinstall   24 Jan  9 12:40 lkPV
-rw-rw---- 1 oracle oinstall 1544 Jan  9 14:15 hc_PV.dat
-rw-r----- 1 oracle oinstall 3584 Jan  9 14:16 spfilePV.ora
  2. Start the SQL*Plus from the new Oracle home: $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
    For example,
    $ cd /opt/oracle/product/18.0.0/rdbms/admin

$ sqlplus '/as sysdba'

SQL*Plus: Release 18.0.0.0.0 - Production on Wed Jan 23 13:03:34 2019
Version 18.3.0.0.0
