On Linux® and UNIX operating
systems, you can run WebSphere® Application Server Version 9.0 as a non-root
user when you previously used a root user ID in Version 7.0 or later.

This topic is about profile configuration migration. To migrate your applications
to the latest version, use the WebSphere Application
Server Migration Toolkit.
About this task
Previous releases of WebSphere Application Server required root
access to the system. The default migration paths to Version 9.0 carry forward that
requirement unless you modify the standard migration process.
Procedure
- Collect related information.
- Provide access to all necessary files, including files
in the the WebSphere Application Server configuration directories and all files outside the WebSphere Application Server tree that you
identified in the first step.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- Change ownership or group access for all the files outside the WebSphere Application Server tree that you
identified in the first step.
- Install Version 9.0 using nonroot_user.
- Create a migration backup directory accessible by nonroot_user.
- Use the migration tools to migrate your previous configuration
to Version 9.0.
