Architecture

ITCAM for Applications helps you manage server and middleware components (including operating systems, application servers, Database servers, messaging servers, Lotus® Domino® servers, web servers, J2EE servers, and Lotus Sametime® servers), even in virtualized environments.

Figure 1 illustrates the architecture of the monitoring environment after the following monitoring components are installed:
Figure 1. Architecture of the monitoring environment On the left are the Tivoli Enterprise Portal browser and desktop clients, which are connected to the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server. The Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server is also connected to a database server labeled DB2 or MSSQL and to the hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server. The hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server is connected to two remote Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Servers and to Tivoli Data Warehouse. Tivoli Data Warehouse is also connected to a database server labeled DB2, MSSQL, or Oracle. Monitoring agents are connected to the two remote Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Servers.
Figure 2 illustrates the optional integration of the Tivoli event management and business service management products into the monitoring environment. In Figure 2, the box that is labeled "Tivoli Monitoring Infrastructure" represents everything in Figure 1 except for the monitoring agents. If you are using the IBM® Tivoli Enterprise Console® or IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus products, in addition to Tivoli Monitoring, to manage events in your enterprise, you can integrate and manage events from a single console. The event synchronization component sends updates to situation events that are forwarded to a Tivoli Enterprise Console event server or a Netcool/OMNIbus Object server back to the monitoring server.

Integrating Tivoli event management and business service management into the environment At the top of the illustration, Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus is connected to Tivoli Enterprise Console, which is also connected to Tivoli Business Service Manager. The connection between Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus and Tivoli Enterprise Console is connected to the Tivoli Monitoring Infrastructure, which is in the middle of the illustration. The connection is labeled Tivoli Event Integration event synchronization. The Tivoli Monitoring Infrastructure represents everything that is in the previous illustration except for the monitoring agents. Connected to the Tivoli Monitoring Infrastructure are the following monitoring agents: Sybase ASE agent, Oracle Database Extended agent, WebSphere Message Broker agents, WebSphere MQ agent, WebSphere MQ Configuration agent, WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition monitoring agent, SAP agent, Siebel agent, Operating system agents, PeopleSoft agents, HTTP Server agent, J2EE agent, Virtual Servers agents, DB2 agent, Lotus Domino agent, and Lotus Sametime agent.
