Creating business monitoring projects

Before you create or import a monitor model, you must create a business monitoring project. Business monitoring projects are shown in the Project Explorer view. Each business monitoring project can contain monitor models, event definitions, and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files. Files with the extension .mm are categorized as monitor models, and files with the extensions .xsd (XML Schema Definition), .wsdl (Web Services Description Language), or .cbe (Common Base Event) are categorized as event definitions.

About this task

To create a business monitoring project, complete the following steps:

Procedure

Open the Business Monitoring perspective by clicking Window > Open Perspective > Business Monitoring.
In the Project Explorer view, right-click and click New > Business Monitoring Project.
Type a name for the project and click Next.
To select a different location rather than the current workspace, clear Use default location and click Browse. Click Next.
To reference other projects from this project (for example, to obtain event definitions for inbound events), select the projects.
Click Finish.

Results

The project is created in the Project Explorer view with three groups inside the project: monitor models, event definitions, and SVG files.

What to do next

After creating a project, you can add a project reference if you find that you want to use event definitions from another project. Right-click the project in the Project Explorer view and select Associate Projects. Select any other projects to reference and click OK. The associated project is now visible in the Project Explorer view. Projects that contain only event definitions that are referenced by monitor models in other business monitoring projects are shown with a flag icon. These projects are not business monitoring projects and cannot contain monitor models.
