Dynamic resource groups

With dynamic resource groups, you can define visibility or access control policies for teams and their users. You can filter what teams can see in the IBM® Multicloud Management Platform (MCMP) Cost and Asset Management (CAM) user interface (UI) and what actions they can take there. With dynamic resource groups, you can also find cost and asset resources and tag them for inclusion in a group. These resources are automatically added and removed from the group without your manual intervention. The filter set that you specify defines which resources are covered by the dynamic resource group.

There are two types of dynamic resource groups: visibility and budgetary.

Users with the CAM_Admin role create the dynamic resource groups and can view all of them. Additionally, there are four roles that can also view dynamic resource groups: Team Asset Analyst, Team Asset Manager, Team Cost Analyst, and Team Cost Manager. These roles have access to the dashboards and can export reports.

Budget view and edit permissions are not available by default to any of the CAM v2.0 roles. The Budget Viewer and Budget Admin roles from Core must be assigned to a team so that team's users can create, update, and view budgetary dynamic resource groups. At least Budget Viewer is required to display details in budgetary dynamic resource groups. Multiple roles can be associated to a team for the roles' intended responsibilities. For example, the Budget Admin and Budget Viewer roles from Core and common services can be used along with the Cost Manager role for a team so that team's set of users have the right set of permissions.

Provider tag creation permissions are also not available by default to any of the CAM v2.0 roles.

Prerequisites

Only users with the CAM_Admin role can create, edit, and delete dynamic resource groups. Before you start working with dynamic resource groups, you must set up your teams with roles and set up your users and assign them to teams. To see a list of dynamic resource groups, navigate to the Dynamic Resource Groups screen by clicking the Open menu within MCMP, and then selecting Dynamic Resource Groups from the Cost & Asset Management v2.0 drop-down list. A list of dynamic resource groups that have already been created is displayed in a table. If dynamic resource groups have not been created, the table is empty.

Important: Do not assign a team both an organization role and a team role.

Creating dynamic resource groups

To create dynamic resource groups, complete the following steps:

  1. As CAM_Admin, navigate to the Dynamic Resource Groups screen by clicking the Open menu within MCMP, and then selecting Dynamic Resource Groups from the Cost & Asset Management v2.0 drop-down list.
  2. Click Create new dynamic resource group. The Dynamic Resource Group Detail screen is displayed.
  3. Add a name for the new dynamic resource group. Each dynamic resource group must be identified by a unique name.
  4. Specify the type for the new dynamic resource group: visibility or budgetary.
  5. For visibility dynamic resource groups, select a business entity. For budgetary dynamic resource groups, select both business entities and budgetary units.
  6. In the Filter set section, select service providers, billing accounts, asset accounts, categories, services, provider tags, and any other filter type for the dynamic resource group.
  7. Click Save. A message is displayed that states that the dynamic resource group was created.

Updating dynamic resource groups

To update a dynamic resource group, complete the following steps:

  1. As CAM_Admin, navigate to the Dynamic Resource Groups screen by clicking the Open menu within MCMP, and then selecting Dynamic Resource Groups from the Cost & Asset Management v2.0 drop-down list.
  2. In the Dynamic Resource Group list table, select the dynamic resource group that you want to update. The Dynamic Resource Group Detail screen is displayed.
  3. Update the values for the service providers, billing accounts, asset accounts, categories, services, provider tags, and any other filter that has been set.
  4. When you have finished making your updates to the dynamic resource group, click Save. A message is displayed that states that the dynamic resource group was updated.

Important: When you update a dynamic resource group, the line items table shows all the data that is included in the dynamic resource group. When you change the filtering to include data that is not included in the dynamic resource group, the line items table indicates that no data is found. Only filter from data that is already included in the dynamic resource group and is shown in the line items table.
