Checking the status of a task

After you perform a task, you can check the progress and current status of the task. You can also view details about the task such as when it started and finished, how many pieces of content it processed, the success or failure of the task in processing that content, and whether the task completed successfully or not.

About this task

Important: Your ability to perform tasks depends on the roles that were assigned to you. Only icons and menu options for tasks that are associated with your roles are visible to you. Be aware that this topic might include information that is not relevant to your roles.
To check the status of a task:

Procedure

  1. Click the Case Information tab.
  2. On the Case Information page, click Task Status in the Navigation pane.
  3. Find the task in the task list.

Tasks are sorted based on their creation time. They are listed on the Task Status pane from the most recently created task to the least recently created task.

Note: The Started timestamp that is displayed on the Task Status pane is the time at which the eDiscovery Manager work manager started processing the task. This is different from the time that the task was created.
  4. Optional: While the task is in progress, click Refresh all to display the latest task information.
  5. Optional: Search for a task by its current status (running, complete, scheduled, and so on). To return to the default view of all tasks, click the All link.
  6. Optional: View more detailed information about a task by clicking the Show detailed task information icon.
  7. Optional: Take action, depending on the current status of a task.

    Option Description
If the task completed If any errors occurred, click the error count to get detailed information about the errors.

Not all errors cause a task to fail. Depending on the severity of an error, a task can continue to run after an error occurs. For example, a task to export 200 items might fail to export a few of those items, but the export task can export the remaining items.

If the task is currently running If you want to pause the task, click the Pause icon. When paused, you can either resume the task by clicking the Resume icon or you can delete the task by clicking the Delete icon.
If the task is scheduled If you want to cancel the scheduled task, click the Cancel icon.1

If you want to reschedule the task, click the Reschedule icon.

If the task is preprocessing (setting up) If you want to cancel the task at this point, click the Cancel icon.1
If the task did not complete due to errors Click the error count to get detailed information about the errors.

Depending on the severity of an error, a task can continue to run after an error occurs. But at the point that a task encounters 100 individual errors, it stops processing. For example, a task to export 200 items might fail to export some items but the export task continues until it either fails to export the 100th item or it finishes exporting the remaining items.

You can also try running the task again by clicking the Restart the task icon, if the icon is available. (Tasks that fail during setup cannot be restarted.)

1 Canceling a task might take several minutes or longer if the task involves a large set of content (for example, one million pieces of content). During this time, objects associated with the content (such as the folder containing it) will be unavailable until the cancellation is complete.
