Installation Validation Process

After you install Sterling Gentran:Server®, you need to validate the installation to ensure that the system is set up correctly.

The following table lists the sequential steps you should take to validate your Sterling Gentran:Server installation.

Task Order Task Name Task Description
1 Verify permissions for database tables.

Use your database management system to verify that all of the permissions were set correctly during the installation. See your database management system documentation for specific instructions.

2 Verify configuration settings.

Open the System Configuration dialog box and verify that the settings on each tab are correct for your installation.

3 Register tutorial translation objects.

Register the following Application and Forms Integration ANSI tutorial translation objects that we provide in the TUTORIAL subfolder under the folder where Sterling Gentran:Server is installed.

  • PET_850.TPL (This is an export translation object.)
  • PET_810.TPL (This is an import translation object.)
  • HEADER.TPL (This is a system import translation object.)
  • PET_810S.TPL (This is a screen entry translation object.)
  • PET_850P.TPL (This is a print translation object.)
4 Import tutorial partner relationship.

Import the PETZONE.PAR partner relationship that we provide in the TUTORIAL folder.

5 Perform an import operation using the Application Integration ANSI tutorial data.
  1. In Partner Editor, verify that the PET X 3030 810 Import translation object is selected for the Outbound Relationship.
  2. On the System Configuration Import tab, define the import specification to indicate which system import translation object is used to begin translation during the import process.
  3. Use the Import option in Sterling Gentran:Server to process the data file (PET_810.TXT) through the translation object.
  4. The data file is located in the TUTORIAL subfolder under the folder where Sterling Gentran:Server is installed.
  5. After the document is translated, it is moved to the Workspace in Sterling Gentran:Server. View the EDI data to ensure that the document was translated correctly.
6 Perform a process file operation using the Application Integration ANSI tutorial data.
  1. Verify (in Partner Editor) that the PET X 3030 850 Export translation object is selected for the Inbound Relationship.
  2. Use the Process File option in Sterling Gentran:Server to process the data file (PETTEST.INT) through the translation object. The data file is located in the TUTORIAL folder.
7 Perform an export operation.

After the document in Step 5 is translated, it is moved to InDocuments in Sterling Gentran:Server. Export the document to ensure that it was translated correctly.

8 Verify access to Document Editor.

Complete the steps in Creating a Document in the IBM Sterling Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows User Guide to verify that you can access the Document Editor.

Note: You do not actually need to complete the document; you can exit the Document Editor after the document is displayed.
9 Verify access to Process Control.

Select Tools > Process Control to verify that you can access it.

10 Verify access to Application Integration and EDI Standards (only if you installed the Application Integration subsystem).
  1. If you installed Integration Components, click the Application Integration icon on the Main Toolbar to verify that you can access the Application Integration subsystem.
  2. Complete the steps in Creating a Map in the IBM Sterling Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows Application Integration User Guide to verify that you can access the EDI standards.
11 Verify access to the Notification Log.
  1. Verify access to the Sterling Gentran:Server Notification Log component from the Start menu by selecting Programs > Gentran Server > Gentran Notification Log.
  2. Complete the steps in Modifying Notification Properties in the IBM Sterling Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows Administration Guide to set up notification parameters.
