Changing the Local Security Setting

Before installing Sterling Gentran:Server® for Microsoft Windows, you may need to change the local security setting. Otherwise, services may not restart after the installation is complete.

Use this procedure to change the local security setting:

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
  3. Double-click Local Security Policy.
  4. Double-click User Right Assignments.
  5. Double-click Act as part of the operating system.
  6. Click Add User or Group.
  7. Enter a user ID in Object names to select.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click OK on the Local Security Setting screen.
  11. Repeat steps 4 - 8 for the following User Right Assignments:
    • Log on as a service
    • Take ownership of files and other objects
    • Allow log on locally
    • Access this computer from a network
      Note: Depending on your operating system, you may see a Confirm Setting Change message. Click OK.
    • Log on as batch job (if you are planning to run unattended sessions)
