If you have the schema of the XML data source, you can
extract data from a valid XML file.
About this task
The XML file can reside on the local file system or a remote
system accessible through a URL.
Procedure
- In the Document Specification view, expand .
- Right-click the data source and select
a configuration option:
- If there is configuration layer metadata for the data source,
click Configure using metadata.
- If authentication is required to connect to the data source specified
in the configuration layer metadata, a window opens where you can
enter your user name, password, and authentication type. Click OK.
- Select the value to use from the configuration layer and click OK.
After
selecting a value from the configuration layer, the data source is
configured and you are not required to complete the remainder of this
task.
- If there is not configuration layer metadata for the data
source, click Configure Data Source and continue
to the next step.

In the Configure XML Data Source window, URL: Enter the URL for the XML
file or click Browse to select a file on your computer.
If you do not know the URL, you can click Find. In the Find
data source URL window, enter a OSLC or web URL and click
Find.
- Authentication: Select the authentication
type that applies to your data source.
You can select one of the following authentication types:
Note: If you are using smart card or SSL certificate authentication, you must
also specify the smart card alias name or the path to the SSL certificate file.
- If necessary, enter your credentials.
Note: The user can specify the user password or the application password that is generated by the
configured third-party identity provider, such as SAML or OIDC. User must select
Basic authentication method while using application password.
- Accept header: Enter an accept type
for providing the data.
Examples:
- image/jpeg
- text/html
- application/xml
- */*

Extra headers: Select a POX (Plain Old XML) link, for
example <http://jazz.net/ns/profile#POX>; rel="profile". This is useful
when creating
traceability documents from Engineering Lifecycle Management
applications.
- Configuration context: Enter the URL for the configuration context
or click Browse to select the URL.
Note: If you used
Find option in step
3, the configuration context field is
auto populated, if the configuration information is available in the selected URL.
- Click OK.
A basic
and a form-based authentication is performed and the XML file path
displays in the Properties view
