File system based disaster recovery solution

IBM® Integrated Analytics System supports a disaster recovery (DR) solution based on a continuous asynchronous file-system replication capability built into the system using IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) Active File Management feature.

Note: This functionality is not available on IAS versions 1.0.17.0 and 1.0.17.1.
Note: This functionality is not available on customer-supplied rack M4002-001 model. For more information on this model, see Integrated Analytics System M4002-001 model overview.

The solution is based on two IAS systems, one being an active primary system and the other a passive secondary system. The primary system is replicated at scheduled intervals. Replication includes data, temp and scratch spaces. Such a snapshot can then be used for failover in case of a system failure. The secondary system's role is then switched to primary, and all the applications are redirected to this system to resume business as usual.

The feature allows byte-level/block level change transfers (data/structure/maintenance) between the two systems. Peer snapshots are taken at the same time on primary and secondary to allow for a consistent recovery point in case of a disaster.

Note: The solution is restricted to use only on a one rack system.
