Coupons are a specific type of pricing rule.
External coupons
Coupons that are defined on an external system are also computed and validated on that external system. With the IsExternal attribute, the external system can pass coupon information to the Sterling Order Management System Software createOrder, changeOrder, and getOrderPrice APIs. Sterling Order Management System Software considers this coupon along with any internally defined pricing rules and coupons.
Non-instant discounts
Some discounts, such as mail-in rebates, store rewards, store cash, and store credit, are not applied to an order immediately. You can decide whether to exclude these non-instant discounts when evaluating order total thresholds for order total pricing rules and coupons.
Coupon codes
You can generate unique coupon codes as part of defining a coupon. The coupon codes can be imported from an external system and can be exported to an external system. The coupon codes can be optionally assigned to individual customers.
Importing coupon codes from an external system
You can import coupons codes from an external system for a given coupon definition. The import can be done in batch mode.
Exporting coupon codes to an external system
You can export a list of coupon codes to an external system.
Defining character sets and coupon policy for coupon code generation
To generate unique coupon codes, you need to define the coupon character sets and coupon policy.
Assigning coupon code to customers
You can assign coupon codes to individual customers so that it appears in their coupon wallet.
Assigning a pricing rule or coupon
After you create a pricing rule or a coupon, you must make it available to customers. You can assign the pricing rule or coupon to specific customers, or you can assign it based on customer attributes, seller assignments, or region assignments.
Defining conditions, adjustments, and limits on pricing rules and coupons
Each pricing rule has purchase conditions that must be met before it can take effect and price adjustments that are applied as a result. Some limits on coupons and discounts are often required, as well.
