An automation signature is a representation of that automation definition in the deployment modeling tools. Each automation signature contains several elements, but the most visible element is the automation signature topology, a type of topology that is embedded in the automation signature. This automation signature topology shows both the units that are installed, uninstalled, or affected by the task and other units that are required to perform the task.
You can create an automation signature manually or use an existing automation definition as a starting point. In most cases, you start with an existing automation definition in an automation engine, such as IBM® Rational® Build Forge® and create a corresponding automation signature from that automation task. Then, you can use the automation signature to plan and control the task in greater detail, such as specifying parameters for the task.
The following topics describe the different ways that you can create an automation signature.
