Managing security types and permissions

There are several predefined security types. For each security type, there is a predefined set of permissions. You can grant or revoke permissions associated with a role.

You must have the Manage Roles and Permissions permission to create roles, grant or revoke permissions. This permission is part of the system security type.

When a role is assigned to a user, that user inherits all the permissions defined for the role. Permissions are role-based and cannot be customized for a specific user. That is, all permissions defined for a role apply to all users assigned the role.

The predefined roles are assigned a set of default permissions. For user-created roles, permissions are assigned to the role from the available security types. You can select permissions from multiple security types. For information about security types and permissions, see Security types.

You can revoke and return permissions to a role. Just remember the permission will apply to all users assigned the role.

  1. Click Manage Security > Roles.
  2. Edit the role that you want to change.
The list of security types displays and the permissions associated with each. Any permissions where the checkbox is enabled is defined for the role.
    • To remove a permissions, remove the check.
    • To add a permission, ensure that the checkbox contains a checkmark.
  3. Click Save.
The role is now governed by the saved permissions.
