Creating a shared profile

Users of IBM® Tools Customizer can share a common profile, which allows multiple users to customize the same product.

Before you begin

Make sure PTF UI31339 (APAR PI43637) has been applied. To create a shared profile, you must be the user who initially customized a product.

About this task

Tools Customizer saves your preferences and settings for specific products that are being customized in an ISPF profile. A shared profile must be created for multiple users to customize a product. After you create a shared profile, other users can reference the shared profile, which allows them to continue with a product's customization.

Procedure

  1. Start the Tools Customizer.
  2. Enter the keyword OPT on the Option prompt of the IBM Tools Customizer for z/OS CCQPHME panel.
  3. Enter / before the Copy user profile to another data set option on the Miscellaneous Options panel (CCQPOP1) and press Enter.
  4. Specify the fully qualified data set name and volume serial, if necessary, of the data set to which you want to copy the Tools Customizer ISPF profile. For example, USER1.SHARED.PROFILE.
Note: You must have WRITE access to the data set.
  5. Exit the Miscellaneous Options panel and continue with any customization work in the Tools Customizer.
  6. Exit Tools Customizer when finished customizing.

Results

When starting Tools Customizer, another user can use the TSO command to access the shared profile. The user leaves first two parameters blank and specifies the shared profile data set name as the third parameter.
Notes:
  • The shared profile reflects changes that are made by the last user to customize a product, but that user's Tools Customizer ISPF profile does not change.
  • The shared profile is updated by actions that each user took during another user's session in Tools Customizer.
  • Any user who wants to continue another user's work after that user is finished starts Tools Customizer by specifying the same TSO command as the previous user.
