Explore Web service assets

Use the "Explore Web service assets" page to search the Web service assets that have been scanned and analyzed. This page lists each type of Web service asset and the number of assets recorded in the inventory database. It is the starting point for searching Web service assets in Rational® Asset Analyzer.

Before you can search for assets, your Rational Asset Analyzer administrator must have taken an inventory of Web service assets. The inventory process populates the Rational Asset Analyzer inventory database, against which you can perform searches.

To start exploring, click Explore > Web services.

This page contains the following sections:

  • The context section enables you to bookmark the page.
  • The actions section enables you to perform defined actions.
  • The search section enables you to search the Web service assets in the database.
  • The results section enables you to select specific asset types to search and investigate.

Context

This section is in the upper-left corner of the page. It opens the "Bookmark this page" wizard in a separate window.

Actions

The Actions section is a drop-down list on the right side of the page. From this list you can select actions to perform. For more information on the actions available on this page, see the following topics:

Search

Use the Search section to search the Web service assets in the inventory database.

  • For a simple search, type a search string into the text field and click Go. Simple search matches the string that you enter to the names of assets. Click Ignore case to perform a case-insensitive search. Selecting this option results in a larger number of matches. If you search on "customer," for example, matches will include results like "Customer" (mixed case), "customer" (lower case), and "CUSTOMER" (upper case).
  • To refine your search criteria, click Advanced search. Use the Attribute and Value fields to set the scope for a database search. Each time you select an attribute from the drop-down list, a new pair of Attribute and Value fields displays to help you further refine your search. Click X to close a pair of Attribute and Value fields. When searching for multiple search attributes (for example, Name = X, Application = Y...), the search results for each individual search are joined by logical AND (for example, show the Web service assets whose name is X in application Y). There is no capability for performing a logical OR operation against multiple search attributes (for example, show the Web service assets whose name is X or in application Y).

You can select from the following attributes:

    Site
Searches the database for assets that are located on a specific server. The sites from which you can choose are listed in the Value drop-down list. Select a site from this list.
    Application
Searches the database for assets used in a specific application. The applications for which you can search are listed in the Value drop-down list. Select an application from this list.
    Name
Searches the database for assets whose name matches the string that you enter. The Value field for the Name attribute is a text-entry field.
    Contents
Searches the database for assets containing text that matches the string that you enter. The Value field for the Contents attribute is a text-entry field.
    Annotations
Searches the database for assets annotated with the text that you enter in the Value field. The Value field for the Annotations attribute is a text-entry field.

After selecting attributes and values, click Go to perform the search. Your search results are shown as a Results column in the summary section, which shows the number of assets that match your search criteria.

Results

The results section shows the total number of assets of each type that have been scanned and analyzed during the inventory process and the number of assets that match your search criteria. To explore the assets of a given type, click the number in the Total column of the result table. To explore the assets of a given type that match your search criteria, click the number in the Results column. The summary page for the specific asset type opens.
