Preparing the system for operation after removing and replacing an internal RDX docking station (FC EUA3) and removable disk drive

Find information about preparing the system for operation after removing and replacing an internal RDX docking station (FC EUA3) and removable disk drive that failed in the system or as part of another service procedure.

To complete this procedure, you must have replaced an internal RDX docking station (FC EUA3). For instructions, see Replacing an internal RDX docking station (FC EUA3) with the system power turned off.

To prepare the system for operation, complete the following steps:

  1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap on and that the ESD clip is connected to an unpainted metal surface. If not, do so now.
  2. Reconnect the power cords to the system. For instructions, see Connecting the power cords.
  3. Start the system or logical partition. For instructions, see Starting a system or logical partition.
  4. Configure the removable disk drive based on the operating system. For the AIX® operating system:
    1. Log in as root user.
    2. At the command line, type cfgmgr and press Enter.
    3. To verify that the system recognizes the device, enter lsdev -Cc usbms.
For the IBM i operating system:
    1. No action is necessary after the system is powered on and the partition started. The existing resource device description should automatically be varied on and available.
    For the Linux operating system:
    1. The Linux operating system automatically configures the drive as a disk drive that has a name in the format sdx, for example, sda, sdb, and sdc.
    2. To verify that the system recognizes the device, enter lsusb.
    3. To find the device that is associated with the USB disk drive, enter lsscsi.
  5. Verify the installed part.
    • If you replaced the part because of a service action, verify the installed part. For instructions, see Verifying a repair.
    • If you installed the part for any other reason, verify the installed part. For instructions, see Verifying the installed part.
