Secure data deletion for devices by using stand-alone diagnostics
Use stand-alone diagnostics to complete secure data deletion for disk drives, solid-sate drives, NVMe devices, and RDX removable disk drives.
Secure data deletion for disk drives, solid-state drives, NVMe devices, and RDX removable disk drives can be completed by using stand-alone diagnostics on 8247-22L , 8284-21A, 8284-22A, 8286-41A, 8286-42A, 8408-44E, and 8408-E8E systems. Secure data deletion by using stand-alone diagnostics is not supported on 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-42L, 9080-MHE, 9080-MME, 9119-MHE, and 9119-MME systems.
Notes:
- If your system is an 8247-22L or if your system has only IFL processor cores, one of the IFL processor cores must be converted to a general-purpose processor core to load and run stand-alone diagnostics. For more information about running stand-alone diagnostics on systems that have only IFL processor cores, see the Diagnostics for systems that have only Power IFL processor cores section in the General diagnostic information topic.
- Secure data deletion for SAS attached drives with JBOD or RAID format is supported only if the adapter that controls the drive is a PCIe3 SAS RAID adapter. Secure data deletion is not supported for SAS attached drives with JBOD or RAID format that are controlled by PCI-X, PCIe, or PCIe2 SAS RAID adapters.
If your system has 2 GB of memory or more, use the AIX®
7.2 stand-alone diagnostics ISO image CD7241.iso, or later. Otherwise, use the AIX 7.1 based diagnostics ISO image CD71541.iso, or later. You can
download the ISO image for stand-alone diagnostics from the Standalone Diagnostics CD website.
Note: AIX
stand-alone diagnostics can be used to complete secure data deletion for devices from IBM®
AIX, IBM i, or Linux partitions.
