Learn how to replace the integrated multifunction card.

Note: Replacing this feature is a customer task. You can perform this task yourself, or contact a service provider to perform the task for you. You might be charged a fee by the service provider for this service.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to complete the steps for replacing the integrated multifunction card in the server. For instructions, see Exchanging a part using the Hardware Management Console.

To replace the integrated multifunction card, complete the following steps:
Note: This task is a nonconcurrent service action.
  1. Remove the integrated multifunction card from the system unit. See Removing the 8412-EAD, 9117-MMC, 9117-MMD, 9179-MHC, or 9179-MHD integrated multifunction card with the power off.
  2. Attach the wrist strap.
    Attention:
    • Attach a wrist strap to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging your hardware.
    • When using a wrist strap, follow all electrical safety procedures. A wrist strap is for static control. It does not increase or decrease your risk of receiving electric shock when using or working on electrical equipment.
    • If you do not have a wrist strap, just prior to removing the product from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an unpainted metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
  3. Slide the adapter into the connector.
  4. Move the handle (A) toward the system, as shown in the following figure, until the handle stops against the adapter.
