Servers, Hardware Management Console (HMC), and switches

Know the components for which the embedded firmware might need to be placed up a level or down a level.

After certain components of the solution have been repaired, the embedded firmware might need to be up a level or down a level to put it at a level that is compatible with the approved solution software stack release levels. If any of the following components are replaced as part of a repair action, the embedded firmware might need to be placed up a level or down a level.

• Server components on any of the management, administrator, or data node servers:
  • Flexible service processor (FSP)
  • Fiber Channel adapter
  • Ethernet adapter
  • RAID adapter
  • Hard disk drive (in central electronic complex (CEC) slots and on external storage V7000 enclosures.)
• Components of an SSD drawer:
  • SCSI-Enclosure-Services (SES) devices
  • Solid-state drives (SSDs)
• The hard disk drive on the Hardware Management Console (HMC) or the entire HMC is replaced
• BNT® switch
• Storage area network (SAN) switch
