Replacing the 8231-E2B, 8231-E1C, 8231-E1D, 8231-E2C, 8231-E2D, or 8268-E1D storage interposer card with the power off

Use this procedure to replace the storage interposer card with the power off.

Note: The storage interposer card for the 8231-E1C, 8231-E1D, 8231-E2C, 8231-E2D, or 8268-E1D server is physically wider than the storage interposer card for the 8231-E2B server, but the replacement procedure is identical.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to complete the steps for replacing the card. For instructions, see Exchanging a part using the Hardware Management Console.

If you do not have an HMC, complete the following steps to replace the storage interposer card:

  1. If necessary, remove the storage interposer card. For instructions, see Removing the 8231-E2B, 8231-E1C, 8231-E1D, 8231-E2C, 8231-E2D, or 8268-E1D storage interposer card with the power off.
  2. If no storage interposer card is present, place the storage interposer card into the system.
  3. Align the interposer card between the tabs on the bottom of the chassis.

There are slots in the bottom of the interposer card tray that should fit over the 4 alignment pins on the bottom of the chassis.

  4. Move the blue latch into the closed position, as shown in the following figure.

  6. Push the disk drive backplane back into position.
  7. If present, replace the external SAS port cable into the port on the interposer card. For instructions, see Installing the external SAS port.
  8. Replace the power interlock switch. For instructions, see Replacing the 8231-E2B, 8231-E1C, 8231-E1D, 8231-E2C, 8231-E2D, or 8268-E1D power interlock switch with power off.
  9. If you are installing the card as part of another procedure, return to that procedure now. If your service actions are complete, continue with the following steps:
    1. Replace the service access cover. For instructions, see Installing the service access cover on a rack-mounted model.
    2. Place the system in the operating position. For instructions, see Placing a rack-mounted model into the operating position.
    3. Reconnect the power source.
    4. Start the system. For instructions, see Starting the system or logical partition.
    5. Verify the installed part.
      • If you replaced the part because of a service action, verify the installed part. For instructions, see Verifying a repair.
      • If you installed the part for any other reason, verify the installed part. For instructions, see Verifying the installed part.
