Replace the model 9116-561 or 570 SCSI-IDE converter card

You might need to replace a SCSI-IDE converter card in the server. Use the procedure in this section to perform this task.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to complete the steps for replacing a SCSI-IDE converter card. For instructions, see Replace a part using the Hardware Management Console.

To replace the small-computer-system-interface (SCSI) - integrated drive electronics (IDE) converter card, perform these steps:

  1. Follow the instructions in Replace the model 9116-561 or 570 disk-drive enclosure to remove the disk-drive enclosure, then return to this procedure. Skip any steps that you have already completed.
  2. Squeeze the tabs and pull the SCSI-IDE converter card away from the disk-drive enclosure, as shown in the following figure.

  3. Push the SCSI-IDE converter card on to the disk-drive enclosure, as shown in the following figure.

  4. Replace the disk-drive enclosure as follows:
    1. Insert the disk-drive enclosure into the system unit.
    2. Slide the disk-drive enclosure into the system until it locks into place, as shown in the following figure.

    3. Close the handles.
  5. Replace all disk drives and disk-drive fillers in their original locations as follows:
    1. Unlock the handle of each disk drive by squeezing and pulling it out toward you before you install the disk drive. If the handle is not all the way out, the disk drive cannot slide into the system unit.
    2. Align the disk drive with the guide rails in the system unit.
    3. Slide the disk drive into the system until it stops, as shown in the following figure.

    4. Push the disk drive handle in until it locks.
    5. Repeat these steps to install all of the disk drives.
    6. Return any disk-drive fillers to their original locations.
  6. Replace the fans. For instructions, see Replace the fans. Skip any steps that you have already completed.
  7. Replace the media device enclosure. For instructions, see Replace the media device enclosure. Skip any steps that you have already completed.
  8. Replace the control panel. For instructions, see Replace the control panel. Skip any steps that you have already completed.
  9. Replace the system unit front cover. For instructions, see Install the front cover on the model 9116-561 or 570.
  10. Start the system. For instructions, see Start the system or logical partition.
