| System is unable to find a storage device that is at the front of the system |
- If the system was recently installed, moved, serviced, or upgraded, verify that the device is
seated and installed properly.
- Verify that the device is compatible with your system.
- Verify that all internal cables are properly seated and are not physically damaged.
- Verify that the most recent firmware is installed on the system. Otherwise, install the most
recent firmware if it is not already installed.
- Replace the drive.
- If your system is a 8348-21C,
replace the system backplane or the storage mezzanine card.
- Replace the cable.
- If you have a RAID adapter installed, replace it.

| System is unable to find a storage device that is at the rear of the system (8348-21C only) |
If the system is unable to find one storage device that is at the rear of the system, replace
the following items, one at a time until the problem is resolved:- Drive
- Drive tray
- System backplane
If the system is unable to find more than one storage device that is at the rear of the system,
replace the following items, one at a time until the problem is resolved:- Drive tray
- System backplane

| Drive stops working suddenly |
- Verify that all internal cables are properly seated and are not physically damaged.
- Check the system logs to verify whether the system detected a problem.
- Replace the drive.
- If your system is a 8348-21C,
replace the system backplane or the storage mezzanine card.
- Replace the cable.
- If you have a RAID adapter that is installed, replace it.

Check the messages and resolve any other problems that were detected. Then, test the drive
again. If the drive continues not to function, refer to the documentation for the drive. |
