Replacing a PCIe adapter in the 9006-22P system

To replace a PCIe adapter in the 5104-22C or 9006-22C system, complete the steps in this procedure.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap on and that the ESD clip is plugged into a ground jack or connected to an unpainted metal surface. If not, do so now.
  2. An adapter can share a PCIe riser with other adapters.
    See Figure 1.

    Position Step
    1 (UIO Slot2),
    2 (UIO Slot1)
    3
    4 (WIO-R Slot) 4
    3 (WIO Slot1),
    5 (WIO Slot2),
    6 (WIO Slot3)
    5
  3. For an adapter in position 1 or 2, complete the following steps:
    1. If the riser card in position 1 needs replacing, replace it in the riser support.
Ensure the jumper at (A) is set at pins 1 and 2 (P-RESET) as shown in Figure 2. Replace the five screws to secure the riser card (B) to the riser support (C).

    2. Insert the PCIe adapter (A) in position 1 of the PCIe adapter riser (B) as shown in Figure 3.

    3. Insert the PCIe adapter (A) that is located in position 2 into the PCIe adapter riser (B) as shown in Figure 4.

    4. Replace the screw to secure the tail-stock.
    5. If you are inserting a storage drive adapter, using your labels, connect the signal cables to the adapter before inserting the PCIe adapter riser into the system.
    6. Insert the PCIe riser into the chassis as shown in Figure 5.
      1. Retract the retaining pin (B) so the arrow points to the system.
      2. Insert the riser, using the slots and alignment pins to properly insert the riser. Push the riser firmly into the system backplane.
      3. Set the retaining pin (B) to secure the riser.
      4. If the system has a screw near the front of the riser, replace that screw.

  4. For an adapter in position 4, complete the following steps:
    1. If you need to replace the small riser for position 4, you will need to remove the riser for positions 3, 5, and 6.
For instructions, see step 5 of Removing a PCIe adapter from the 9006-22P system. Then insert the small riser. Replace the riser for positions 3, 5, and 6.
    2. If you are inserting a storage drive adapter, using your labels, connect the signal cables to the adapter before inserting the adapter.
    3. Insert the adapter into the riser.
    4. Close the retaining door by sliding it against the tail stock as shown in Figure 6, then reset the retaining pin.

  5. If the riser card for positions 3, 5, or 6 needs replacing, replace it into the riser support.
Replace the two screws that secure the riser card to the riser support as shown in Figure 7.

  6. For an adapter in position 3, 5, or 6, complete the following steps:
    1. If you are inserting a storage drive adapter, using your labels, connect the signal cables to the adapter before inserting the adapter.
    2. Plug the adapter (A) into the proper slot in the PCIe adapter riser (B) as shown in Figure 8.

    3. Replace the screw to secure the tail-stock.
    4. If you are inserting a storage drive adapter, using your labels, connect the signal cables to the adapter before inserting the adapter.
    5. Insert the PCIe riser as shown in Figure 9.
      1. Retract the retaining pin (B) so the arrow points to the system.
      2. Insert the riser, using the slots and alignment pins (A) to properly insert the riser. Push the riser firmly into the system backplane.
      3. Set the retaining pin (B) to secure the riser.
      4. Replace screw (C) in the side of the system.

  7. Using your labels, replace any cables and plugs that you removed from the PCIe adapters.

What to do next

Prepare the system for operation. For instructions, see Preparing the 5104-22C, 9006-22C, or 9006-22P system for operation after you remove and replace internal parts.
