This article compares security for WebSphere MQ on the distributed platforms using OAM to security for WebSphere MQ for z/OS using RACF. While the same WebSphere MQ objects -- queues, channels, and so on -- are protected on all platforms, what can be protected and how it is secured differ greatly between distributed and z/OS. An understanding of these differences is essential for architects, administrators, and developers who may need to work across platforms. Furthermore, understanding security strengths and weaknesses across platforms leads to a deeper understanding of how MQ security works.
