- Milestone 2 (1/24/13)
- Milestone 1 (1/04/13)
Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager brings together multiple components to monitor Tivoli Storage Manager servers and to produce historical reports about server and client activities.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring acts as a monitoring application that provides workspaces for you to monitor real-time information. You can monitor the Tivoli Storage Manager server status, database size, agent status, client node status, scheduled events, server IDs, and so on, using the monitoring workspaces. Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager also provides reports based on the historical data retrieved. You can use the existing historical reports provided, or you can create your own custom reports.
In order to fully utilize Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager, including the historical Cognos reporting capabilities, three components must be installed and configured: Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager, the Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager agent, and the Administration Center.
- Installing Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager allows you to monitor your Tivoli Storage Manager servers and store historical data. The installation installs the following components:
- The Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager agent must be created and configured for each Tivoli Storage Manager server you intend to monitor. The monitoring agents can be created directly on the reporting server, or you can install and configure the monitoring agent directly on supported Tivoli Storage Manager servers.
- Installing the Administration Center, including the Tivoli Common Reporting component, allows you to view historical reports. Alternatively, you can use existing Tivoli Common Reporting instances and import the Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager packaged reports.
The following themes guide the planning of this release:
Cognos Reporting: Increased number of out-of-box reports that will leverage the Cognos 10.1 technology and capabilities. Newer technology will allow for better ease of use and more manageable reports.
Virtual Environment Reporting: Out-of-box reports will be available to gather information for configurations using Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments.
Usability: Enhancements to allow users to schedule and email reports to keep Tivoli Storage Manager administrators and Tivoli storage Manager clients informed about critical processes such as client backups or server database backups. Drill Down capability within reports enables more flexibility when querying information and building reports.
Performance Enhancements: New pruning defaults will be established on new installations to improve performance by managing the space usage of already summarized data.
Report Sharing in an Existing ITM Environment: Whether custom or packaged reports, processes have been established to allow reports to be shared amongst teams and between organizations.
