Here is a document I wrote to help customers avoid a network port
conflict between vCenter server and IBM DS Storage Manager software. Customers may experience network ports being blocked particularly as
they relate to the tomcat port. The symptom could be one or the other product not starting or functioning correctly randomly, it depends which process starts up first that gets access so it may work one time then fail another time. One thing to check is to see if the IBM
DS Storage Manager software is installed and running on the same host
as the vCenter server.
IBM DS Storage Manager software uses the same Tomcat port that is required to be used by VMware vCenter server and can cause numerous conflicts that are hard to diagnose. VMware recommends the vCenter server should not have any other services running on it that are not provided by or required for the use of VMware vCenter related products.
