VLP and POWER SystemsThroughout the year, we make changes to VLP to fix bugs and update content to reflect changes in the hardware and operating systems that we provide in VLP. Last weekend, we made more changes to VLP to fix some minor bugs in our web-facing user interface. One thing we changed last weekend was the representation of the POWER hardware architectures. Now, VLP refers to all POWER5-based systems using the name POWER5. Also, we now refer to all POWER6-based systems as POWER6. We used to make a distinction between POWER5 systems that can run IBM i (i5 O/S) and those that cannot. But, since from a product standpoint, IBM no longer makes that distinction, we decided to eliminate it. This change took some time to make because the VLP is an automated system. Your reservation request goes from the web-application to a set of servers that automatically provision your system. Most reservations require very little human intervention. It is the thing that makes it easy for you to make VLP reservations around the clock. [Read More] |
