As part of the both the upcoming launch of My developerWorks and the IBM Spring plan work, I've been using social networking to dig into a couple of areas. First, I went to one of IBM's social networking experts, Jeanne Murray, to find out how IBM is using social networking internally to make people smarter. Jeanne sent me to The Lotus Social Software Community. From there, I found this goldmine of experts and groups (nearly 3000 groups using Lotus Connections inside IBM). As I was pouring through the groups, I happened to find a Group called Java BR (Brazil). I then started a topic in this group around "Where do software developers in Brazil go for Java resources?". Magically, my new friends and colleagues in Brazil came back with the following information
There are a couple of communities web sites today for Java in Brazil:
These are most popular because of the forum. For instance the GUJ has the most popular forum in Portuguese.
SouJava and DFJUG are communities too, but they are focus on weekly lectures.
SouJava has the most famous e-mail list, such as Java jobs list:
DFJUG has the best newsletter about events and lectures around Brazil.
About statistics I don't know, but I create a topic about it on GUJ Forum: http
When someone to answer it, I will updated you.
I got some GUJ' statistics in brief:
GUJ has 58,614 users enrolled
There are 665,392 messages posted on forum.
There are 4,322 online users: 122 as enrolled user, 4,200 as guests user (now)
Later that day, my new expert colleague Klebar, provided even more insights on the Java community in Brazil..
I received a answer, about GUJ stats.
Hope it help you - http
