So the story goes that "Global Audience Spends Two Hours More a Month on Social Networks than Last Year" : On average, global web users across 10 countries spent roughly five and a half hours on social networks in February 2010, up more than two hours from the same time last year. While the U.S. boasts the largest unique social networking audience, Italian and Australian web surfers led the way for average time on site with more than six hours each in February.
I am just not sure I like that "two MORE hours" ....perhaps it is included in my normal hours as I just can't see how there are any more hours in the day....or did I miss something while I was spending all my expert time in meetings, conference calls, doing e-mail and working? Maybe it is a minute here and a minute there....that I can handle. I visit many social networks on a regular basis yet I never stay too long. Cumulative though of all my minutes... ok.....I've now talked my way into 2 more than last year....as afterall....last year at this time we didn't have My developerWorks!!!

Educating the Net Generation: A Handbook of Findings for Practice and Policy is now available to download. The title is very academic...after all...support for the original work was provided by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council Ltd, an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
Well worth the read...some findings thrilled me...while others confounded me. I do wonder.is this Australian specific or applies in other countries? Any students or faculty care to comment?
- They found little evidence that technology usage patterns can be explained primarily on the basis of broad generational differences – dispelling the digital natives versus digital immigrants argument.

Web 2.0 technologies such as blogs and wikis were used by a small proportion of students and while there was evidence that social networking, digital file sharing and podcasting were popular among a minority of students, very few students were regularly using technologies such as social bookmarking.
- many students recognised or gained unexpected benefits from their exposure to the ideas and experiences of other students that were shared using Web 2.0 technologies. The use of publishing and information sharing tools, such as wikis, blogs and photo sharing sites, positively impacted on many students’ engagement with the subject material, their peers and the general learning community.
